Dear Parent/Guardian,

I hope this final newsletter of the 2009-2010 school year finds you in good health!

First, I want to inform you of the revised school calendar for the 2009 – 2010 school year. As you know, the school year has been shortened by five furlough days for this year as one of many efforts by the District to close a $640 million budget gap.  This savings will allow class sizes to remain at current levels for all grades and avoid some of the layoffs that had been planned.

The important date changes for this school year for Carson High School will be:
·    Friday, May 28, 2010, “Non-Instructional Day – School Not In Session”. This connects to the Monday, May 31, 2010, “Memorial Day Holiday – School Not In Session” creating a four day weekend.
·    Monday, June 21, 2010, last day of school.

Because of the above changes, the 2010 graduation ceremony for Carson High School will be held on Friday, June 18, 2010 at 1:30 PM at the Home Depot Center Tennis Stadium.  A letter was previously sent home with seniors explaining this change.

A revised school calendar for the 2010-2011 school year may also be found in this newsletter.

Please know that your assistance in making adjustments for your children and family are appreciated.

Second, please remember that the dates for STAR Testing are May 13 – 20, 2010.  All students, including seniors, are expected at school during testing time.  Senior hours will count during this time.  Please remember Carson high school’s policy regarding STAR testing.  Students not participating in testing during their 9th, 10th and 11th grade years will not be able to participate in their graduation ceremony.

I believe that Carson High School’s Parent Newsletter is the best newsletter in LAUSD.  I want to personally thank our secretary, Rebecca Capitano, for the excellent work she does in putting this newsletter together every other month.  I also want to thank Bill and Eva Fields for placing the mailing labels on the newsletters and folding and stuffing them.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please contact me.  Enjoy your summer!

Sincerely,

Ken Keener, Principal
